This large format book was published to document Richard Wright's two exhibitions at The Modern Institute Aird’s Lane (25.06 – 06.09.2014) and Aird’s Lane Bricks Space (26.05 – 09.09.2017). Wright – winner of the Turner Prize in 2009 – created four leaded glass skylights for the Aird’s Lane space in collaboration with York Glaziers Trust, Britain’s oldest stained glass conservation studio. In the second exhibition at Aird’s Lane Bricks Space, Wright brought together two site-specific works alongside several new works on paper and accompanying books and notations. Enveloping the gallery, Wright produced a new wall painting that covered the Aird’s Lane gallery space’s front façade. Hand-painted posters, pasted on to the external walls, doors, windows and shutters, are fleeting and temporal in nature. They interpret and trace the architecture of the space, transforming the building into an artwork and make painting perceptible, as a spatial experience.
