823.JOY
823.JOY is an exploration of the way one book generates a constellation of others. Taking James Joyce's Finnegans Wake as its gravitational centre, the project traces the proliferating network of criticism, commentary and interpretation that surrounds his work. This expanding bibliographic ecosystem becomes an artwork in itself: a map of how reading begets more reading, how one text catalyses countless others. By collecting and arranging these secondary books, 823.JOY foregrounds bibliography as an artistic practice, revealing the invisible architecture linking libraries, marginalia and scholarly research. What emerges is not simply a collection, but a living structure: a portrait of intellectual recursion, intertextual dependence and the uncanny fertility of Joyce’s writing.
The classification 823.JOY refers to a library shelf mark (Dewey Decimal System) for works by or about Irish novelist James Joyce (1882–1941), specifically within the English literature section (800s) for Irish fiction (823).
